Peaceful Glamour: The Guest Room

(This was a post I wrote before we moved, wanting to save up memories of our Goshen home. It is so fun to look back on this and remember our hard work and fun times.)

Sometimes I find myself visiting this room just to catch my breath.  When we first moved in I felt this room was a catch-all, which is easy when there is only two of us in a 2,000 square foot house, and it was frustrating.  As I was brainstorming for this room I knew I wanted to make it lighter and bring the outdoors in. The view from this room shows our front yard compete with a white picket fence and our garden that boasts a variety of peonies. This sprung the inspiration for this light an airy guest room.

We had already redone the floors before moving in (you can read more about that here). So the first step for us was painting. I used the color Magical Mauve from Sherwin-Williams. It is so fitting to its name because it magically changes from purple to grey and back again depending of the time of day and the weather. The trim also received a new coat of white paint.

To bring some more glamour to the room and an element of surprise I painted the panels on the back of the door in an ombre but simply mixing the wall and trim colors.

The main furniture was left with the house when we bought it. The bed frame was hiding under a trash pile in the garage and the dresser was left in the back bedroom showing almost as much wear and tear as the bed. The dresser was so far gone that the only was to repair it and clean it up was the give it a few clean coast of paint. I know Nicole Curtis says different and I prefer natural over painted any day but it really need some love. The bed just needed a lot of washing, lemon oil and glue. The chairs and lamps were left-overs from before our move that got an updated paint job as well. The chair is IKEA and used to live in our upstairs sunroom before that became Trevor's full time office. You can see it in its previous life here

I'm a lover of artwork, which might explain my art teacher profession, so this room has a few great prints hanging in it. The pinecone artwork is from IKEA and the insect prints are from Cavallini & Co. The paint color is from Sherwin Williams, Magical Mauve, it lives up to its name constantly changing from grey to lilac shades.
